SHANGHAI, CHINA — vivo has officially introduced OriginOS 7, its latest smartphone operating system, with updates covering system performance, multitasking, cross-device connectivity, AI-assisted features, and customization. The operating system was introduced in Shanghai on September 21.
OriginOS 7 Adds Performance Improvements
OriginOS 7 introduces the next-generation Origin Smooth Engine, which includes changes to graphics computation, memory management, and system scheduling.
Its Ultra-Core Computing feature dynamically allocates processing resources based on demand for activities such as gaming, multitasking, and extended video sessions.
According to vivo’s internal testing, OriginOS 7 reduces app cold-start time by 10% and improves app page switching by 11%. The company’s tests also report that Memory Fusion can provide 60% greater memory reclamation and free up to 25GB of additional storage on a 256GB device.
The system’s Dual Rendering feature is reported to improve rendering efficiency by 14.4%. vivo also says OriginOS 7 underwent a 72-month anti-aging test in its laboratories.
Origin Workbench Supports Up to Five Apps
OriginOS 7 introduces Origin Workbench, a multitasking feature that allows users to coordinate up to five active applications within a unified task space.
The feature is designed for workflows such as working on documents while checking notes, reviewing content while messaging, or handling multiple parts of a creative task.
Origin Animation Changes System Transitions
The new Origin Animation system uses physics-inspired motion for interface interactions.
It includes Fluid Motion, which changes how interface elements move in response to touch, and Spring Animation, which applies motion effects across supported system components, apps, and in-page elements.
OriginOS 7 also includes Seamless Interaction, which is designed to provide smoother scrolling across supported system and third-party applications.
Cross-Device Connectivity Expands
OriginOS 7 adds connectivity features for supported Apple and Windows devices.
Supported Apple Watch models can connect with vivo smartphones for notifications and synchronization of selected workout and health data through the Origin Health app. Supported AirPods can also display battery information through Origin Island and support Spatial Audio, depending on the device and region.
Through vivo Office Kit, compatible vivo smartphones can connect with iPad, Mac, and Windows PCs for task handoffs, real-time note synchronization, and cross-screen file transfers.
OriginOS 7 can also bring selected iCloud content into vivo File Manager, allowing supported photos and files to be browsed, uploaded, and downloaded from the system.
Jovi Adds AI-Assisted Tasks
OriginOS 7 introduces Jovi, vivo’s personal AI agent for tasks involving connected smartphones and PCs.
Through vivo Office Kit, Jovi can retrieve files from a connected computer, summarize information, and send relevant information to a smartphone. Users can also schedule recurring tasks such as compiling reports or organizing files, depending on feature availability.
Another feature, Snap Note, uses structural recognition to convert photos of whiteboards, handwritten notes, and presentation slides into editable documents.
Jovi Security records autonomous actions, while key steps require direct user authorization.
New Customization Features
OriginOS 7 adds customization options for the lock screen, home screen, and Always-On Display.
Wiggle Theme turns personal photos into interactive surfaces that respond to touch, while Glint Theme uses gyroscope data to create changing light and shadow effects as the device moves.
The system also includes StickIt, which allows users to create layered compositions from photos and Live Photos, and Pet Pals, which provides interactive companion themes that respond to device movement, charging, music playback, and changes between day and night.
OriginOS 7 Availability
vivo says OriginOS 7 will be available on the vivo X500 Series, as well as new X Fold and V Series devices.
Availability and supported features will vary depending on the device, software version, and market. vivo says further details regarding Philippines availability will be announced through its official channels.
