For today’s motherboard, we have the MSI MEG X570 ACE. This represents MSI’s high-end, sitting 3rd from the top of their product stack. Initial impressions for the MSI MEG X570 ACE is the classy aesthetic, coming in black and gold that goes along with AMD’s 50 Year Anniversary, and includes an “Infinity Mirror”  at the rear panel cover offering enthusiast-level features such as a 2.5G Ethernet, a 12+2-phase power delivery, and three PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slots, all at a fairly reasonable price.

MSI Brands the X570 MEG ACE as an enthusiast gaming range motherboard following a different design compared to the others launched on the same day. Having an all-black PCB with gold and black designs on all of its heatsinks.  In terms of PCIe, the MSI MEG X570 ACE has two full PCIe 4.0 slots from the CPU that run at x16 or x8/x8, and a full-lenght PCIe 4.0 x4 slot from the chipset. On the board, there are seven 4-pin fan headers, an LED Debugger, a power button, a reset switch, and the MSI Boost dial, allowing users to use MSI’s pre-defined overclocks without having to enter the BIOS.

Like the MSI MEG X570 Godlike, the ACE includes a fair amount of plastic at the rear panel and around the X570 chipset heatsink. This is considerable since this isn’t a flagship model,  and shouldn’t affect thermals thanks to the actively cooled chipset heatsink.

MSI x570 MEG ACE Inside the box

Inside we find four (4) SATA cables, four (4) RGB extension cables, an antenna set for the REalTek AX1650 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 wireless interface, three Mi.2 installation screws, a driver CD, and a user manual. The MSI MEG X570 ACE provides everything necessary to get a system running out of the box.

Going over to the I/O ports at the rear,  the MSI MEG X570 ACE offers the following:

  • Three (3) USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A
  • One (1) USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C
  • Two (2) USB 2.0 ports
  • Five (5) 3.5mm audio jacks
  • S/PDIF optical output by RealTek ALC1220 HD audio codec
  • Two (2) ethernet ports by RealTek RTL8125-CG 2.5G and Intel I211-AT Gigabit pairing of NICs.
  • RealTek AX1650 Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax wireless with BT 5.0 connectivity.
  • Clear CMOS button
  • BIOS FLashback switch
  • Highlighted USB Type-A for firmware update

Though the overclocking of the Ryzen 3000 series has been quite disappointing due to limitations of the 7nm silicon and insane temperatures that these run during overlocking, there are options to maintain this like premium AIOs and custom water cooling.

Overlocking on the MSI MEG X570 ACE motherboard is simple wihtin the BIOS, MSI Dragon Ceneter or the comprehensive AMD Ryzen Master overclocking software.

The 12+2 power delivery of the MSI MEG X570 ACE is on of MSI’s top performance from past motherboards and as a result, it has allowed us to manually overlock to up to 4.3GHz with a voltage of 1.375 but wasn’t able to go above 4.4GHz event at 1.5 V. Perofrmance was consistently higher with each of the tests we performed.

The VRM on the MSI MEG X570 ACE is well equipped to handle overlocking with the new 3rd generation Ryzen CPUs. The VRM is precisely cooled by a large heat sink that utilizes the heat pipes attached to the chipset heat sink. For internet connectivity, MSI was kind enough to provide not only an Intel Gbit NIC but also a 2.5Gbit Realtek NIC with the new Wireless AX Controllers. Some of the things that we found lacking were that there were only four SATA ports on the motherboard which is a bit low comparing to other X570s but this was done to allow more USB and other chipset features. At its current price point, the MSI MEG X570 is in direct competition with a handful of models that come at a lower price. The MSI MEG X570 ACE has initial lapses like irrational overlocking presets. This motherbaord represents a good example of an ethusiast-level gaming themed board though.
