A Gaming Smartphone That Won’t Hurt Your Pocket

Gaming Centric Phones are becoming a trend now due to the rapid growth in the Smartphone Gaming Industry. You will already see Gaming Smartphones with a very impressive Screen Displays and Overpowered Processors inside, not to mention Gaming Smartphones with tons of accessories to boost your gaming experience.

That mentioned, we need not to forget that with Power comes with a stiff price tag thus these Incredibly Awesome Smartphones may not be the best option for those Gamers who has a tight budget.

I was given a chance to check a smartphone that introduce itself as the real gaming pro.  I played with it for more than a week and let me share to you some of my experience with the Realme 3 Pro.

Is it really as good like what Realme says? Well, let us see.

The Package

This is what you will get inside the box;

Yes, no earphones included. If you are that person who cannot live without that, then better get your own headphone. Note also that the local version has a Two Prong VOOC Adapter.

The Realme 3 Pro

You have three Colors to choose from; Lightning Purple, Nitro Blue and Carbon Grey. Aside from the Display they are generally made of a plastic material which is noticeable the moment you hold and tap it. Nonetheless, with its Le Mans-inspired speedway design it actually looks premium.

In front is a huge Due Drop Full Screen Design at 6.3” FHD+ Display with 90.8% Aspect Ratio using Corning Gorilla Glass 5 Protection and with Pre-Installed Screen Protect Film for added protection. Yes, it is not AMOLED but in real life, the colors are actually punchy and it was great enough for Netflix Streaming as well as Gaming.

You will see the Power Button on the Right Side.

While at the left, you will see the Triple Slot Tray (Dual Nano Sim, microSD Card) and the Volume button. Personally, I prefer having both the power button and volume button to be at the left side; it is more convenient for me.

Below is the Speaker Grill, 3.5mm Jack, Mic and a Micro USB Port (No USB Type C Here!)

And at the top, you will see the noise cancellation Mic.

The finger print sensor is at the back along with its Dual Camera with LED Flash.

The Realme 3 Pro is using ColorOS 6.0 based on Android 9.0.

You will notice several bloatware out from the box but that should not be a deal breaker as you can uninstall them with ease. Below are the pre-installed applications;

In addition, the important Smartphone sensors are here;

The Camera

Front Camera

The Realme 3 Pro has a 25MP f/2.0 AI Front Camera that produce a decent output. I am not a fan of the AI Beautification but you can try it if it suites you. No front LED but you can utilize screen flash in low light environment.

Rear Camera

The Rear Camera on the other hand is using a 16MP f/1.7 (SONY IMX519) + 5MP f/2.4 Combination for better Portrait. The Camera has multiple useful modes that you can choose from, namely; Panorama, Expert, Time-Lapse, SLO-MO and Nightscape which I believe the crowd favorite. You can also play with some of its features like the Chroma Boost that improves the Dynamic Ranges of your Pictures, AI Portrait, and Ultra HD to name a few.

Here are some of the Photos I took using Realme 3 Pro;

The Battery

With a massive 4045mAh battery, this should be more than enough to juice up your daily Smartphone routine. In my case, after leaving my house around 7AM with 100% battery, I normally arrive home with 20-30% battery juice to last up until I sleep.

Not that bad considering that I consider myself a heavy user with my Mobile Data is always on, my Hotspot is most of the time turned on for my other Smartphones, I Play Mobile Legends on my vacant time and spend the rest of the time browsing my Social Media Account.

I also ran a quick test for those who are planning to purchase this Smartphone for Gaming, specifically Games like Mobile Legends.

These are the settings for this Test;
50% Brightness
50% Volume
Mobile Legend Settings on its Maximum

Using Mobile Data
Realme 3 Pro’s Performance Mode was Turned On.

Here are the results:

Ten Ranked Games played for roughly 4 Hours (this includes idle time, chit chat etc. while in game) and I Still have 5% Battery Juice Left.

Quite impressive if you ask me, my other phone can only handle several rounds without connecting it to a power bank or power outlet. If you wish to save more juices then playing thru Wi-Fi and Lower Settings in both Game and Phone would definitely help a lot.

Furthermore, it is a known fact that having a Massive Battery Capacity is synonymous to longer Charging Time; some phones might need 2-3 Hours to charge it from 0-100%. With Realme 3 Pro, its 4045mAh battery is a piece of cake with its VOOC Flash Charge 3.0. Realme mentioned that with VOOC 5V/4A Flash Charge, it could power up your Realme 3 Pro’s battery up to 50% in a matter of 30 Minutes.

Here is the result when I personally try it;

Charge Time Battery Juice
32 Minutes 50%
47 Minutes 73%
1 Hour 89%
1 Hour and 20 Minutes 100%

The Power

Aside from the battery that will fuel your gaming phone, the most important thing that it should possess are components that are good enough to power your favorite games. Realme 3 Pro got your back here, it might not be using Top Notch Qualcomm Processor like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and 855 but still it has the Capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 AIE. Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 AIE with Adreno 616 GPU is an Octa-core Processor, manufactured on the 10nm process with a clock speed of up to 2.2 GHz.

Here are some of the Test Result;

This is using the latest RMX1851EX_11_A.17 OS Firmware Version

The numbers are not bad at all. Nonetheless, the most important thing is the real gameplay. On my case, I focused with Mobile Legends, PUBG, and Need for Speed. I played all of them in the highest possible settings and so far, I did not experience major hiccups during my games play.

To add app the Realme 3 Pro has a pre-installed game software, which is quite useful for mobile gaming. This automatically kick in the moment you open your game. It optimize your phone, release unused resources and prevent unwanted message pop ups while you are in the middle of the game.

Conclusion

The Real Deal with Realme 3 Pro are the Huge Battery coupled with VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 giving better gaming endurance with less charging and a capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 AIE with up to 6GB Memory and 128GB Storage. Those features plus the reasonable price that starts at Php 12,990 makes Realme 3 Pro an Ideal Gaming Phone that will not hurt your pocket.
