Since the launch of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 20-Series, the market has not really eaten up the more high-end series as they can be quite the price tag. Finally, they have gone out of their way to give us a more bang-for-the-buck gaming experience with the Nvidia GTX 1660Ti. We were able to get a hold of a few cards and unbox them on an earlier live stream. Amongst these cards, we got the ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1660 Ti OC.
Quick Unboxing the ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1660 Ti OC
The ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is powered by NVIDIA’s Turing architecture, although lacking the RT and Tensor cores. This has the TU116 graphics processor fitted with 6 GB GDDR6 memory running at a data rate of 12Gbps. The MSRP is at ₱ 22,940.
The ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is fitted with two HDMI 2.0b ports as well as two DisplayPort connectors. Video cards are slowly transitioning from DVI and virtual-link connectors to HDMI 2.0 and DVIs. It is definitely a good choice for ASUS to make this card Display Port 1.4a ready for 8k 60hz support.
The read side is covered with a back plate with decent gaps to vent with the small PCB reaching to the actual cooler enabling the card to reach 50-60°C based on our tests while remaining silent. Asus has definitely maintained the same triple fan design, like the ASUS ROG RTX 2080 Ti 11GB OC Edition which makes it hard to distinguish between cards if you are able to gather so many.

The ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1660Ti OC’s performance is slightly better than that of the GTX 1070 and definitely surpasses the GTX 1060’s by around 25-30% giving us almost 100FPS on 1080p depending on the graphic intensity of the game. The GTX 1660Ti surpasses the GTX 1070 in most of our game bench except the Witcher 3.
We checked thermals by leaving HWInfo’s sensor monitoring tool open during the game benching, of course keeping track of the highest temps reached. We were quite impressed with the results as the ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1660Ti’s default settings in BIOS keeps the GPU incredibly cool. Although, the silent mode tends to make the temperatures rise to about 70-73C. Still, quite cool comparing it to the 1070 and 1070Ti.
NVIDIA definitely did wonders with the result of the GeForce GTX 1660Ti. The performance level reflects a little above that of the GTX 1070. At a top-notch price of ₱ 22,940, you really can’t go wrong with the ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1660Ti OC. Of course, having lower variants available. The 6GB card offers a bang-for-the-buck option for those looking for performance but doesn’t have the budget for the 20-series cards. The addition of ASUS’ custom cooling is definitely what is being paid for here aside from the AURA Sync. For an entry-mid level card, the ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1660Ti OC has given us an incredible performance to price ratio without breaking the bank.
We feel as though the GeForce GTX 1660Ti is a card that will replace the currently famous GTX 1050Ti as the go-to card for top-tier gaming. Even with 1440P resolution, it resulted in decent FPS numbers. There is really nothing we’d like to improve with this card except probably an upgrade in aesthetics.
