ASUS Unveils the World’s First AMD-Powered Gaming Laptop!

AMD continues to pressure Intel this year (which is a good thing) in the CPU market when they released their Zen architecture. The new AMD Ryzen has been the top choice for those who runs multi-core programs and even gamers as well. Intel is now forced to release their 8th gen CPUs 3 months earlier because of the beatdown they’re now getting.

And the onslaught doesn’t stop there, ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) announced Strix GL702ZC, the world’s first gaming laptop featuring the AMD Ryzen™ 7 processor and an 8-core computing power with multithreading technology. Yes you read it right, a DESKTOP PROCESSOR ON A FRIGGIN MOBILE DEVICE!

This became possible thanks to an exclusive deal between ROG and AMD, the Strix GL702ZC is the world’s first gaming laptop that is powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 processor. This processor features eight cores and 16 threads, with a maximum boosted speed of 3.7GHz to give users the performance required for intense gaming or productive computing. Their strong multithreaded performance is prized by power users for providing enough oomph for simultaneous gaming and streaming, or more productive pursuits, like content creation and heavy multitasking.

Spec-wise, the GL702ZC is quiet impressive, but I’m still curious about the temperature of this unit is getting especially when using heavily-bombarded workloads. Having a desktop chip on a compact device gave me doubts on how will it stay cool.

  • Is Asus Laptops are capable of running heavy games? Or should I go for MSI? I have seen MSI reviews. They say MSI is a good candidate. please reply.

Yes definitely! In fact, they are number one in the Philippines in terms of gaming notebook market share. Both brands are great, the deciding factor is going to be which brand will give you a better deal 🙂
