Last year, Huawei’s P9 showed us the true capability of dual cameras making it one of the best flagship devices based on consumer’s feedback. This year, they made it even better with the newly launched P10 Plus, thanks to its second generation of Leica co-engineered cameras on both rear and front camera.
Samsung however shifted to smaller megapixel count, better camera software and sensors instead. With 1.4 µm pixel size, it can take great photos especially in low lit areas.
In this article, we will test and compare these two devices in terms of camera quality. How will the Huawei P10 Plus perform against Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Plus? Read on below to see the results:
Huawei P10 Plus:
- Rear Camera (Dual Cam Set-Up):
- 20-Megapixel Monochrome
- 12-Megapixel RGB, f/1.8 Aperture with Leica Technology
- Dual Tone Flash
- PDAF + CAF + Laser + Depth Auto Focus
- With OIS
- Front Camera:

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus:

Both devices are in auto mode as we assumed that most consumers will just use their mobile phones as an alternative point-and-shoot camera.
In this scenario, the Huawei P10 Plus gets the nod since the images has more details to it plus the color saturation looks more realistic compared to the shot taken by the S8 Plus

We took these photos outside on a broad daylight and because of this, you might find less difference between the two, but once you zoomed in you will notice that the details are somewhat different.
Upon seeing the results, It seems that the Galaxy S8 Plus gets the advantage over the P10 Plus. The image has more vibrant colors thanks to its large aperture lens which allows more light to come in.
Selfies (CLICK THE PHOTO TO ZOOM IN)
As per the photos taken by the two devices, I was astonished on the output of the Huawei P10 Plus, colors and details are clear and crisp. The Leica co-engineered lens not only takes good photos but also did an incredible job in post processing of images.
Even in selfies, I still preferred the P10 Plus as it gives a more vibrant but not too saturated photos. My only concern though is that the P10 Plus requires few milliseconds to process the subject upon pressing the shutter button to prevent blurred images which on the other hand, is an advantage of the S8 Plus as it takes photos incredibly fast and accurate.
